Have you given some thought as to how you would like your hair to be styled for your big day? There is a myriad of styles you can consider – from a simple up-do to elaborate cascading curls – and it can be a difficult decision to make. I usually spend a good amount of time with my clients discussing what would work best, basing my advice on their dress designs, their personal style and also their hair length and type.
Whatever style you decide on, the hair styling process and products can be a little tough on the follicles. It is important to prepare your tresses in advance so that your hair is healthy and strong for styling.
Here are my top 3 tips on how you can care for your locks before your wedding.
1. Get regular hair treatments
For those of us with shoulder length to long hair, split ends and dry hair can give the impression that our hair is limp and frizzy. To ensure maximum shine, I recommend getting regular hair treatments once a month for the 6 months leading up to the wedding should do the trick. Remember to go to a reputable salon that can advise you on the best treatment for your hair length and type.
2. Don’t leave it to the last minute to cut and colour
Hair always looks awkward when it has just been done. I would advise all brides to be who wish to refresh their hair with a cut and colour to do so 2 weeks before the big day. This gives a bit of time for your hair to settle and look more natural.
3. Wash your Hair the Night Before
Washing your hair on the day itself increases the likelihood of your hair having too much slip. This makes it difficult to achieve styles that are voluminous and textured. Washing your hair the day before lets hair look and hold much better when styled. Plus, it can be a time-saver. Your hairstylist will not need to blow-dry wet hair, allowing for more time to focus on perfecting the style and completing your look.
